Book Review:Country Faith

I recently got the chance to review this new book out "Country Faith". It was a nice simple little read. Filled with tons of popular country singers and I notice some gospel singers in there as well. Each page has a nice colorful picture of the person with the page going with it about their favorite bible verse. They explain why it is their favorite verse and the story behind it. If you are a country music fan or just want something simple to read than this is the book for you. It would also make a great gift for someone who loves country music. It was nice little read with tons of great bible verses from the music stars who favor them. Not a devotion book,it's just a simple reflections book that can be read in a day.

One Light still shines by Marie Monville Book Review

I am always fascinated by the Amish culture. A couple years ago I watched as the news of a school shooting in their Amish community rocked their quiet world. It wasn't just a random person on the street. It was a neighbor, a man,father and husband who did this horrible act. I got to recently read this book "One light still shines" by his wife. She was just as surprised as everyone else. A christian normal family. Marie the wife of the killer tells a story in her own words. It's not about every little detail of their lives and every little thing that happened. It's a story about her faith in God and how he brought her through this hard time in her life. It's about how Christ brought her through and even in the mist of pain and sorrow that one light does still shine and it is God! I was encouraged by the faith she had and courage to keep going after this. A great book for anyone to learn that God does still shine even in the darkest hour.

Book Review: For ever Season by Cindy Woodsmall

My Thoughts: I was so excited to read book 3 in this series. I have really gotten into this series and can't wait to see what happens. It leaves me waiting to see what will happen. In this book we got everybody still at the farm working hard to try make the orchard a success  We learn more about Camilla and Bob. We learn more about what happen to Jacob with his troubles in the English world. We meet Iva who comes to work at the farm. We see a lot of stuff working up to everything in book 3. I love the characters and the storyline. It's full of twist and turns and surprises. Plus it does not end here I found out book 4 will soon come out. You can't read this as a stand alone book. You must read all of them to know where you are at.

My Thoughts: If you know me,you know I love Amish fiction books. So I was super excited to get Tricia's devotion book "The one year book of Amish peace". It incorporated one of my favorite subjects to read into a day by day devotion. One each page is a story/devotion,bible verse,prayer to pray and neat facts or quotes on the side. I loved this book. Plus it included a few recipes which I loved as well. It is such a great and different devotion book. It makes me want to pick it up and read. It keeps me interested because it's based with Amish life and I love that. Full of 365 days of insight. If you love the Amish,this is the book for you!!

My Review: I really enjoyed this book! It gradually brought me in and I ended up really into the characters and storylines. I like how it just didn't stay in the Amish world. It went into the English world in the middle of the Vietnam war. It touched on many different subjects from that time period such as,war,hippies,peace and depression that many faced coming back from war and fighting during peace rallies right here in our own country. I am really hoping that two of the main characters (don't want to ruin storyline) get together. They are made for each other. I think one may sense it.  I loved the revival part. It was a well described part and made you feel you were right there under the tent. The book kept me reading til the end and waiting for book 2 too come out. I am really excited as to where the story goes and what happens.

Book Review:A home for my heart by Anne Mateer

I just got to read and review "A home for my heart" by Anne Mateer. I love historical fiction the best. This story takes place in the 1910. Sadie is assistant to the head matron of the orphanage where she grew up. As the head matron leaves and marries. The job goes to Sadie who now is in charge of the home and must strive to keep it open and keep funds going for the expenses. Blaine is the man she dreamed of marrying,but at the same time she becomes matron,he has bought his own farm. Plus she can't be married being a matron. Full of wonderful characters in this story. Some things didn't go as I thought they were going. It all lead up to a wonderful lesson to learn though. Don't try to prove to somebody your worth or that you're someone you are not. The only person you should be concerned about is how God sees you. It also gave such a great example of all the children that are good kids that needs homes. It was a sweet and simple story and I enjoyed it.

Chicken Quesadillas or Enchiladas or Beef Burritos. Even the Fajitas mix in a bag. So I choose the Beef Enchiladas as my choice. 

It is such a simple meal to make for two people!! All you do is pull back the film and put it on a pan and bake it according to the directions on the package. They smelled really good and I could not wait to try them. 

Here they are right of the oven. It had 6 in the box. It could possibly made into a meal for 3 because the two I ate kinda came together like one big one and filled me up. I always worry that frozen meals are going to taste processed. This surprise me and didn't taste at all processed. It tasted like it had come from a mexican restaurant. We really enjoyed the taste of it. Though it was a little spicy for my taste. I thought it was very good. All in all I would try it again because it is tasty and such a easy and simple meal to just throw in the oven.

Book Review: The Secret Keeper by Beverly Lewis

Beverly Lewis has always been a favorite Amish author of mine. I just finished reading her latest book "The Secret Keeper". Jenny is from a nice English life but has always felt drawn to a plain lifestyle. She does not connect good with her family or modern stuff. She likes the old way. She has been friends and wrote letters to an Amish friend Marnie. After much thinking Jenny decides to make the change and go Amish. We are taken back to hickory hollow to Rebecca and Samuel Lapp house. You will know them from another series. We are introduced again to some of the characters out of other books. She goes about trying to form herself into the Amish world. A lot of the characters were seeking out things in their life. I loved this book. It was another great one from Beverly. A good read about trying to find peace within you and finding out where your true home is and where you truly belong in life. This book can be read separate from the series. I enjoyed it!

Book Review:His Treasure by Sheri Rose Shepherd

I recently got to review this book "His Treasure" by Sheri Rose Shepherd. I fell in love with the cover. The cover along would make me want to buy it. This a wonderful little book for Women. It is letters of love from God. Including many ranges of topics from when your facing trials or needing comfort or encouragement. Each topic includes a letter from God. It has a treasure of truth quote and bible verse with each one! I really liked this little but big gem of a book. It's refreshing and encouraging to go to and read. Each letter writes to you as if God wrote to you. This would make a great book for any woman of any age to read and treasure!

My Review:  I just finished reading this book. It made me get in the mood for Christmas at the front of the book with all the cooking going on. I liked this book. It was just a short simple story and I love to read them too. It wasn't dragged out and was kept simple. You could read it in a day or two if wanted. It's also one of the first Amish books where I seen a Amish go to the war. It dealt with the depression era and war. The effects that this all had on families. It was sweet story of a parents love for their child where they gave her a better life. Plus the lesson that no matter if you're alone or with somebody you are always with God! I enjoyed this sweet book!!

Book Review:Take Charge of your Emotions by Dr.Linda J.Solie

I suffer from Ocd/Depression and Anxiety. I recently had the chance to review this book by Linda Solie. One of the things I did like about it is the Christian base of it. I love how God is brought into it and it's a Christian based book. It is filled with tons and tons of great information to help you take control of your thoughts,behaviors and feelings. It has things to write down to help you through your thoughts that are negative. She helps you to identify your thoughts and how to turn them into a positive one. I found the book a little confusing and could not understand some of it. It was a lot of information and I finally I just put it down. For some reason I just could not comprehend what was being said. While maybe not my kind of reading. It could very well be of help to someone else who can understand it better then me. Just be ready for lots of information and a clear thought process to understand it. I do applaud the writer for writing a book to help people with this terrible struggle.

Book Review:Sweet and Simple Moments with God Devotional by Kim Newlen

I recently got the chance to review a new devotion book out titled "Sweet and Simple Moments with God Devotional" by Kim Newlen. It's got 365 days of devotions. One for each day of week to spend some simple and quiet alone time with the Lord. They are short and simple when you need just a dose of encouragement or quiet time in your day. Not a real deep and hard to understand devotion. It's just a simple one with simple thoughts and that is what I like about it!! It starts with a Bible verse and then short stories and thoughts from the writer. I like how their are real life happenings and stories from her. It makes it so much more personable!I think the cover is cute as well. It looks so womanly with the cute design and colors!! This would make a great gift for any Woman in your life or just a gift for yourself!

Book Review:Encouragement for Today

I recently had the chance to review the new devotion book out from the Proverbs 31 ministries! It is filled with 100 devotions to encourage you Women in your day to day life.  Each devotion written by everyday women. I really liked this devotion book because it wasn't one of those day to day ones listed by date. It's one you can just go to anytime when you need a dose of encouragement. At the end of each devotion it gives you bible verses to look up that go along with the devotion. Plus it gives you a reminder to remember what to learn from the devotion. Then a thought on how to respond and what you can take with you from that devotion. This is a nice woman's devotion for somebody just wanting something encouraging and simple to understand devotions for each day.

Book Review: The Letters by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Suzanne is one of my favorite Amish fiction writers!! This book is a start to her news series "The Inn at Eagle Hill".  In this book we meet Rose and her late husband's children. Rose is widowed and living with her Mother in law. She is trying to figure out a way to make money to pay off debt left by her husband. His business got into a bunch of trouble and people lost money. She feels she needs to pay it back even though it wasn't her fault. While in a store she overhears some English people needing a place to stay and she invites them to her home on a whim. From this she decides to open a bed and breakfast in her basement. With the help of her next door neighbor Galen she gets it open and running. Her first guest arrives and the story gets going. I was a little lost in the start of book,it was kinda slow,but it slowly drew me in to what would happen. We see different stories coming out of each character! Another nice visit with the Amish in Suzanne's new series!! Nice Read!!

Book Review:A hopeful heart by Amy Clipston

I love Amy Clipston Amish fiction books!! This one was another great one in the first book of the new series "Hearts of the Lancaster Grand Hotel"!! Hannah is a Amish woman with three children who has lost her husband. She runs the horse farm with her late husband's brother Joshua and works part time at a local hotel to make ends meet. While working at the hotel she meets Trey who has come to the area to open a bed and breakfast. He has also experienced loss. He has lost his wife and daughter. Together they start talking and form an instant bond with each other. They understand each other and the lost they have been through. With the strict rules of the Amish community it becomes difficult for Hannah to see Trey. I loved this book. One of my favorite parts was seeing the English church through the eyes of Hannah. I loved the characters and stories coming out of each one. I can't wait for book 2 to come out to see where this all heads. I don't want to say to much because I don't want to spoil anything for you. A great book though from Amy!

Book Review:Adoring Addie by Leslie Gould

I read book 1 in this series and loved it. Book 2 is just as good,loved it!! For years there has been a feud between the Mosier and Cramer families. It's a secret really why the feud even started. I really like the main character Addie and feel so sorry for her at times. She was always trying to do good and got treated kind of bad by her family. Well full trouble blows out when she falls for Jonathan. He is a Mosier and her family and his family would not approve. So they court in secret. They are wanting her to marry a man Phillip they think would be good for her. It all comes out to the feud being brought to light once again. Full of twist and turns! For some reason Hatfield Verses McCoys kept coming to mind. It was just one lie that turned into a bunch of lies over a lifetime. I loved Addie and Jonathan,they were so sweet together. Some of the characters you just wanted to hit sometimes. Another great one in this series. I can't wait til the next book comes out!!

Book Review:The Outcast by Jolina Petersheim

I love Amish and Mennonite Christian fiction. I quickly picked this one to read as it looked like it might be another good one. The main character has a child out of wedlock and refuses to names the Father and is treated shunned like in her Mennonite community. I read almost 50 pages into it. I could not get into it. You had the main character telling the story and then the bishop that died telling the story from heaven. I think what threw me off  was the one bad word in it near the front(what people call a child born out of wedlock). I didn't see the need for that kind of language in a Christian fiction book. I still read on,but I could not get that out of my mind because I don't use that language and I don't want to read that language. Then I kinda figured out who the child's father was. I flipped through the book and I don't like the adultery in it. It says it's like reading "The Scarlet Letter",but I never read it so I can't compare. Even though I didn't read the full book,it  doesn't mean you might not like it. It just wasn't my style of reading.

Book Review:The Winnowing Season by Cindy Woodsmall

I am enjoying this series very much. To read book 2, you will have to read book 1,as this is not a stand alone read. I was happy to get back to all the characters in book 2. In this book after a hearing in front of the higher up people,they finally agree to let the move happen after Samuel wrote about the wrong done to Rhoda. So we are now in Maine and they are starting up the Orchard they bought and living all together in one big house. We start to see a lot more in this book about all the stories coming out of each character. It keeps you reading and turning the pages to see what is coming next. New friendships,New Romances!! You must read book two. I can't wait to read book three. Love the characters and storyline!!
