Retro Diner Birthday Party

We threw my dad a Diner themed party this past week for his Birthday. He loved it and really enjoyed it. I made a playlist of oldies diner type music and had it playing as well. I had so much fun looking and finding ideas and stuff. Pinterest is a must stop for anything!!! Here are some photos.

Mom made the cake!! I loved it. I had the little dancing people forever in a box off a cake on year.
Ice Cream Sundae Bar. I put a table cover out. Then we had the Sundae bowls(you can find any like it at most dollar stores) I made little ads and put them in a clear picture frame. I had pictures from varies places. I took the diner looking ones and I edited them into little pictures and taped them on the cover and walls.
I ordered scene setters off the internet. I found these under a seller on Amazon!
More Scene setters and pictures I have taken and edited to look like wall pictures. I got 25 free through a deal one day at Walgreens!!

I was so excited when I found the Diner baskets at the Dollar General for 4/1.50!! I sat out the old style Mcd's glasses we had bought the awhile back when they were selling them. I used old records we had as place settings. I put a cup under a record and made a little stand in the middle. I place a mustard and ketchup bottle, fake menu I made, napkins and a daily special ad I made on top of it. I used the black and white checkered table cover.

Took a picture I had and made a ad. I bought a bucket at the dollar tree along with the coke glass. I bought the straws at Hobby Lobby. Then I put the old fashion glass bottle Crush sodas in the bucket with ice.
I found the Root Beer Float recipe on Pinterest. I bought the small coke glasses at the Dollar Tree. I put Chocolate pudding in the bottom and topped it with whipped topping and a cherry. I cut a straw in half for decor look of it.
I found these little hot dog holders at Dollar General for 4/1.00
I had the labels. I took these small little paper bags at hobby lobby and cut them in two. I used the top half to make the French Fry Holder cause it had the little ripple cut at the top. I took the bottom half and make Onion Ring holders. Was trying to go for the paper fry bag holder look.
The food table. I used a table cover and old records to put the stuff on.
Made a fake menu cover and a ad like a daily special with what we were having!

This was loads of fun to plan. I love planning themed parties!!! Can't wait to plan another one!!

From the Kitchen: Tater Tot Casserole

We have had this dish long before the Duggar's made it popular on their show. I love that show,ok on to what I was talking about. I made one. It don't look perfect or anything. I used to line each tater tot up,but I seen where the Duggar's just threw theirs on top out the bag and spread them. So that is what I do now. It saves a lot of time!! One of my favorite dishes!!

1 Bag of Tater Tots
1 lb Hamburger meat
I can of Mushroom Soup

Brown the Hamburger meat and drain the fat out. Mix it with the mushroom soup. Pour it into a casserole dish and top with Tater Tots. I usually let it cook til the Tater Tots are done and browned a little. As for Salt and Pepper it really is just what your taste is. I put it in the oven on 350 degrees. I guess you can go higher if you want. I just make this recipe from memory. It's one of those that are in my head.

Serve it up in a bowl and enjoy!!!

Mother's Day Luau

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day!! My mom had been gone all week to NC to visit her dad and my dad went down later in the week to fix things for our new renters in our home. So I had him bring her home by lunch on Sunday and I surprised her with a Luau Party. I had lots of fun planning it and decorating. It turned out great. A Balloon with candy,a palm tree and Sign with Happy Mother's day greeted her on the front porch. I presented her with a flower lei around her neck.

I found most all of my stuff at the Dollar Tree.
I had Umbrella Straws in the cups
I loved this little paper lantern that I found

Food
I made my first beach cake. I found blue icing at the store. I used Teddy Grahams as the people, gummy lifesavers as the floats, gummy fish in the water,Kit Kats for the two chairs and found two palm trees at Hobby Lobby and then made the sand out of brown sugar.
I made punch. Just Ginger ale,Pineapple Juice and your choice of Sherbet

Flip flop cookies I found on Pinterest. You take Nutter Butters and then used icing to make the flip flop. I picked some gel icing and it made it look like the jelly flip flops..lol
Mama's gift basket
These were hooked to the balloons. I found the bucket at Target and the Candy at Lifeway bookstore, each piece had a different Bible Verse on it.

Her special gift was a Charm necklace I had made with a picture of her Mother that passed away this past December. It was her first Mother's Day without her.

Biscuit Donuts...

So when I was in like 4th grade..a long time ago..lol:) Our teacher one day made this recipe with us and it was so easy to make. It has stuck with me for a long time. I have not made it in forever but for some reason I thought of it today and thought you might like to try it sometime.

1 Can of Biscuits
Choice of Toppings for Different Flavors (Icings,Sugar,Sprinkles,Etc..you get the picture, anything good..lol)

Take the biscuits and take a Bottle top from a Soda bottle and press into the middle making a hole and putting that dough aside. Then drop each Biscuit into either a Hot Deep fryer or Pan with Hot Oil turning them over on both sides to cook and cook til golden brown:) Take them out and drain the excess grease off on a paper towel. Simple as that! Then you take a top it with whatever topping you like:) You can also take a bag and shake them in powered sugar as well. Simple right? Oh and those leftover pieces that you cut the circles out well roll them babies up in a ball and you got donut holes you can cook and make:) I have seen online where you can get very creative with these. You can cut the middle of donuts into different shapes like Hearts,etc...and then cook the shapes:) So there you go a fun a simple way to make cheap donuts at home:) Yummy and Cheap:)
